NATIONAL SAILING ACADEMY REACHES OUT FOR SPONSORSHIP
Thursday 3rd June 2010

The Government of Antigua & Barbuda have now added sailing & swimming to the list of National Sports which means that they can be included in every school’s curriculum giving all Antiguan schoolchildren, from 8 to 18 years,  the opportunity to learn to sail and swim – in school hours and without charge.

To facilitate this, the National Sailing Academy has been incorporated as an independent non-profit charitable organization which will be administered by a volunteer board.  It is planned to have the programme in schools by September 2010.

The potential benefits of this programme are manifold – to both the Antiguan community and the Yachting Industry which is growing year by year.   No other sport in Antigua can offer the youth the variety of employment opportunities – as well as becoming competitive racing sailors, they could, in time, become captains, crew, bosuns, engineers, riggers, sailmakers, sailing instructors etc.etc.  The first step is to get them involved in the sport.

The Academy will be funded by donations from individuals, groups and businesses – both in Antigua and overseas.  We shall also be asking every yacht visiting a marina in Antigua for a voluntary contribution of U$1.00 per foot of overall length per year.  We are also  offering sponsors the opportunity to have a dinghy branded with their name/logo if they wish.   Sponsorship for an Optimist will be U$3,500. The opportunity also exists, at this stage, for a major sponsor to have the fleet of 6 Picos branded uniformly – the total cost for this will be U$25,000. At this early stage, we have a requirement for new sailing dinghies – 12 Optimists and 6 Picos. We are delighted to say that we have, so far, been given sponsor funds for six of the Optimist dinghies from individual yachts.

We shall  be offering businesses and individuals the opportunity to become Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum sponsors depending on their level of contribution.  We are attaching a range of sponsor options.

Friends and Sponsors of the Academy will be listed (if they wish) on our website and will receive a periodic newsletter informing them of our progress.  We will also discuss with our sponsors how we may publicise their support.

We hope we can add you to this list and Thank You in anticipation of your co-operation.
