AYC HIGHTIDE CHRISTMAS SERIES REPORT
Tuesday 30th December 2014

This year's Hightide Series started on Saturday the 20th December on a poignant note, as it was also held in honour of the memory of Jol Byerley, who invented the series, and passed away last month.

Sixteen boats officially crossed the start line in two classes and they included three yachts that Jol had owned over the years.  The fleet was joined by two others "sailing in company with the fleet".  Conditions were ideal and an enjoyable race was had by all.

As Springtide (Jol's last boat, and sailed by his daughter Cary Byerley, grandson Jolyon and Peter Mullins) crossed the finish line ABSAR was on station to create a "rainbow" with its fire hoses. This was followed by a gathering of all the yachts plus a few more, while Jol's ashes were scattered and flower petals were cast into the water.

When the numbers were crunched for the race results, it materialised that Hightide and Springtide had won their respective classes proving that Jol had indeed been looking after his final race.  The Race was followed by a prize giving on the AYC lawn and a moving celebration of Jol's L
life.

Races 2 & 3 were held on the afternoon of Boxing Day, in sparkling conditions, with 10 yachts turning out, and these same yachts participated in the final race of the series on the 27th.
