The Antigua Yacht Club Mini Regatta, held on January 11, produced close racing and consistent performances across multiple dinghy classes, with sailors competing under the low-point scoring system over five races.
In the ILCA 7 fleet, Jules Mitchell emerged as the clear winner with an impressive 5 total points, posting three first-place finishes and maintaining consistency throughout the series.
Shanoy Malone secured second place on 12 points, followed closely by Ozani Lafond in third with 14 points. Rhone Kirby finished fourth on 16 points, while Alan Hart rounded out the top five with 24 points. Despite challenges including UFD and DNS results, the fleet completed a competitive five-race programme.
The ILCA 6 fleet saw a strong showing from Tyden Jones, who claimed first place with 5 total points, highlighted by two race wins. Iman Blackman and Jo-Ann Brown both finished on 13 points, taking second and third respectively, while Imani John-Polanco placed fourth overall sailing in the Fusion class with 16 points.
In the Optimist Senior division, Ruben Van Hest dominated the fleet with 5 total points, winning three races and maintaining podium finishes throughout the day. Owen Direnzo finished second on 11 points, with Luc Agusti close behind in third on 12 points. Dale Bryan and Adam Camacho completed the fleet with consistent mid-fleet performances.
The Optimist Green Fleet showcased developing talent, with Tyvone Richardson and Ziggy Brookes tied on 7 points, delivering steady performances across the races. Bodie Pierini finished third with 15 points, gaining valuable regatta experience.
The Mini Regatta served as an excellent early-season benchmark for Antigua’s dinghy sailors, highlighting depth of talent across youth and senior classes. With consistent participation and competitive racing throughout the day, the event reinforced Antigua Yacht Club’s role in nurturing sailing excellence and providing regular race opportunities for sailors at all levels.
