ANTIGUAN OPTIMIST TEAM RETURNS FROM ORANGE BOWL REGATTA Saturday 4th January 2014
Antigua's Optimist Team has just returned from the Orange Bowl Optimist Regatta where they registered fantastic success! The Team did exceptionally well and everyone is very proud of them.
The entire team has put in a huge amount of effort over the past several months and, in particular, in the lead up to the event. They have been out on the water every day training in all kinds of conditions, even in the windy and very wet weather we've experienced in the past month or so.
The Team and parents would like to thank Coach Magnus Brun for his dedication to training the youths, with a special thanks to Carlo Falcone for donating an excellent location for the Team to do “briefing” and “debriefing" - both crucial parts of any training program.
There were 240 Optimists participating in the regatta. Results are as follows after 11 races completed:
Rocco Falcone
Overall: 45th out of 240 boats
Blue fleet: 16th out of 104 boats in class
Best race results: 1st, 3rd, 7th, 10th
Louis Bavay
Overall: 56th out 240 boats
Blue fleet: 21st out 104 in class
best races: 14th, 15th, 17th, 17th
Jalice Gordon
First time in a big regatta
Overall: 199th out of 240 boats
Blue fleet: 91st out of 104 boats in class
It should be noted that the Team's results continue to improve tremendously with all the hard work and training they have done, as well as receiving more and more experience at International Regattas.
Team members have also worked hard at their own fund-raising efforts by selling made-to-order crepes at various different venues and times.
Congratulations to everyone! There will be many more successes to come!
