OPTIMIST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2012 BEGINS JULY 17 Monday 16th July 2012
Press Release - English Harbour, Antigua, July 16, 2012
The following young sailors are now in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic to take part on the Optimist World Championship 2012 . . .
They are
- Rhone Kirby – age 13 years
- Rocco Falcone – age 11 years
- Louis Bavay – age 11 years
They are accompanied by their coach, Olympic Sailor, Karl James.
It is hoped that the Antiguan youths will gain valuable experience from the opportunity to compete at this level of competition. The Optimist Class racing allows sailors up to and including the age of 15 to compete so Antigua's young sailors have more years to go in this class.
There will be some 230 sailors from 52 countries representing five continents participating in these Championships.
Antigua Yacht Club would like to thank the National Olympic Committee for its assistance with the financial costs of attending the Championships and LIAT The Caribbean Airline for helping with the transportation of the necessary sailing gear. We would also like to thank the parents of the boys for their help and support.
We wish them all Good Luck and Safe Sailing.
