ANTIGUAN JUNIOR SAILORS PARTICIPATED IN SCOTIABANK INTERNATIONAL OPTIMIST REGATTA Tuesday 26th June 2012
Three of Antigua’s top Optimist sailors participated in the 20th Annual Scotiabank International Optimist Regatta hosted by the St. Thomas Yacht Club from June 22 to 24, 2012. The regatta was attended by a record 127 sailors from 16 nations including Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, St. Maarten, Trinidad & Tobago, the USA and USVI.
Antigua and Antigua Yacht Club were represented by Rocco Falcone who finished ahead of the other two Antiguan sailors, Rhone Kirby and Louis Bavay. Although none of the Antiguan sailors managed to finish in the top ten places in the regatta, the event provided an excellent opportunity for them to experience racing in such a large fleet in a top international Optimist regatta.
Rocco, Rhone and Louis all have their eyes on the upcoming Optimist World Championships which will be held in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic from July 15 to 26. They have been practising hard and are thrilled to have had the opportunity to participate in the St. Thomas event in the lead-up to the World Championships.
We offer our support and very best wishes to all three of our young Antiguan sailors who we know will give their best effort and put on their best possible performance in Dominican Republic. Good luck to Rhone, Rocco and Louis! Click here for all News and Specials for Antigua Yacht Club
