AYC YOUTHS SUCCESSFUL AT FORT LAUDERDALE OPTIMIST REGATTA Monday 27th February 2012
This Optimist regatta for young sailors aged 15 years and under took place on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd January 2012 in waters fronting the Lauderdale Yacht Club.
Two cadet sailors from Antigua Yacht Club attended – Rocco Falcone (Age 11) and Louis Bavay (Age 10). There was such a large entry for the Green Fleet (age 12 and under) that the 55 boats were split into two classes.
On Saturday they enjoyed good conditions with 10 to 12 knot wind and completed four races but on Sunday the wind died and they only managed to get one race in the schedule.
In Division 1, Rocco finished second overall from 28 boats and in Division 2, Louis finished third overall from 27 boats.
What a fantastic achievement for our Antiguan youth sailors. Congratulations to them both.
