ANTIGUA YACHT CLUB LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR RORC CARIBBEAN 600 Thursday 19th January 2012
Dear AYC Members,
As I am sure you are aware the RORC Caribbean 600 is fast approaching. This year the start date of the race is the 20th February 2012.
You will remember that in this exciting race the fleet will battle the 600nm course which circumnavigates 11 Caribbean Islands starting from Fort Charlotte, English Harbour, Antigua and heading north as far as St Martin and south to Guadeloupe taking in Barbuda, Nevis, St Kitts, Saba and St Barth's.
This means that yachts can finish the race at any time of day or night from the night of Tuesday 21st through to the end of Friday 24th February.
So we are, once again, looking for a team of volunteers to take part in a 24 hour watch system, some taking times as the yachts finish the race and others meeting & greeting the finishing boats on the dock. You will be able to track the race using the RORC Yellow Brick Trackers via the internet and find out for yourselves whether yachts are finishing within your watch time.
RORC have been very impressed with the competence and knowledge of our volunteers and with the fact that the same people are returning each year. This means that we now all know the 'ropes'.
We are also looking for volunteer gate boats, press boats and spectator boats - so if anyone would like to see the action from the water and has a suitable boat please come forward.
Please respond to helenspooner1@hotmail.com or yachtclub@candw.ag leave your contact details at the Antigua Yacht Club Office, with a note of how you would like to take part.
We look forward to hearing from you!
All the Best
