WORLD SAILING YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Monday 8th January 2024
During the World Sailing Youth World Championship held in Buzios, Brazil from December 8-15, Emily Gaillard and Ozani Lafond proudly represented Antigua and Barbuda in the ILCA 6 Female and Male one Person Dinghy divisions. This globally renowned competition drew sailors from 61 nations, featuring races with diverse wind conditions ranging from light to heavy, resulting in exhilarating races and tight finishes.
Ozani Lafond secured the 26th spot among 49 competitors, achieving notable 10th and 15th place finishes. Such a performance marks a remarkable feat for an Antiguan Youth sailor on the world stage. Meanwhile, Emily Gaillard claimed the 41st position out of 45 participants, with her best finishes being 22nd and 28th, a commendable effort given the demanding conditions, especially considering her petite stature.
Both sailors gave great performances. We look forward to their continued success in future sailing events.
