2022 OPTIMIST AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS Tuesday 4th October 2022
From the Antigua & Barbuda Sailing Association:
Two Antiguan Optimist sailors, Patrick Greensmith and Alistair Knoblough represented their country well at the 2022 Optimist African Championship hosted in Langebaan, South Africa from 24 September - 1 October, 2022.
Amidst stiff competition in a fleet of 66 boats with sailors from Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Mozambique and other African nations, Patrick finished 7th overall with finishes of 2,3,4,5, and 7 in the last six races. Alistair also achieved a 27 overall, very respectable in the top half of the fleet. Most importantly the boys were outstanding goodwill ambassadors for Antigua and made some new friends across the African sailing community. Both boys sail out of Antigua Yacht Club under Karl
James, who accompanied them as the Coach to this competition. Next up for these two sailing athletes is the 2022 Optimist North Americans that will be hosted in Bahamas from 13-20 November. AYC will be sending a team of 4 sailors.
