MEZZO SOPRANO ELENA CACCAMO WILL PERFORM FOR ANTIGUA OPERA SOCIETY
Monday 19th March 2018

With a lyrical and passionate voice, Elena Caccamo was born in Milano, Italy in 1994, and graduated at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire in Milano where she is currently pursuing her Master's Degree under the guidance of Silvana Manga.

In 2005 she achieved her first solo role at La Scala in "Tannhauser" and in the following years, Elena had the opportunity to perform soloist parts in several operas including "Macbeth", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "Die Zauberflote", "Tosca" and "Peter Grimes" working with many notable and inspirational conductors including Sir Andrew Davis, Kazushi Ono, Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel and Roberto Abbado. Elena also performed in many concerts with the Filarmonica Orchestra of La Scala and had the honour of working with some of the most important young rising stars, such as Carlo Tenan and Cadario Battistoni.

In 2015 Elena made her debut in the role of Lola in "Cavalleria Rusticana" in Milan, under the innovative direction of Gianmaria Aliverta, she also performed as Contadina in "Nozze Di Figaro" at the Teatro Sociale Di Como.

Other notable Soloist roles include Mrs Baggot in "The Little Sweep" by Benjamin Britten, Cherubino in Mozart's "Nozze Di Figaro" for the Opera Studio Project and Rosina in "The Barber of Saville", by Rossini.

A tour of Italy in 2017 brought Elena back to her role as Rosina once again, this production by AsLiCo. She is currently singing Flora in Verdi's "La Traviata", directed by Roberto Catalano and is looking forward to her debut as Bizet's Carmen.

Elena will also be singing the roles of Angelina from "La Cenerentola" by Rossini and as La Ciesca, from the Puccini opera "Gianni Schicchi", both directed by Gianmaria Aliverta.

Appearing with the Antigua Opera Society Elena will bring her impressive interpretational depth and musical phrasing to the performances.

The Sailing Academy is an open air venue and has a large capacity. For those, particularly with family, wanting a more local and exciting party atmosphere on more casual lines this would be great for them. The AOS do not think that this performance is suitable for young children, but at the same time want to encourage teenagers and young adults, especially with a musical interest, to come and experience something new. To this end, The Society would like to offer a special price of US$15/EC$40 at the gate for all between the ages of 10 and 18.

The Antigua Opera Society is a newly registered charity offering Opera Performances on island and all profits will go to support musical and vocal education of children in Antigua and next year’s intended production. Plans for 2019 include, for the first time ever, a full Opera in March/April and discussions for this are already in motion. Their Excellencies Sir Rodney and Lady Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, are the Society’s Ambassadors and are firmly and actively supporting the initiatives of the Antigua Opera Society.
