AID TO DOMINICA IN A DAY - ON M/Y VA BENE Friday 20th October 2017
One of the many yachts who has answered the call from the region to assist the relief and rebuild efforts in Dominica is M/Y Va Bene and Captain Nick Line. Nick, incidentally co-owner of Anchor Concierge and Super Yacht Services, an agency that is working with YachtAid Global in co-ordinating relief efforts across the region with the many superyachts headed our way this season.
Of the trip to Dominica, Nick said on arrival the welcome was incredible. Warm welcomes and big smiles were out in force as they arrived into Portsmouth at 6 am today. He did not hear a single complaint about the plight of the people, just so many happy smiling faces that put such a positive lift to the exercise. Of the experience Nick said, ‘It was really quite humbling after all they have endured they were just so totally welcoming and happy!’
Nick went on to say ‘Cobra, the agent, was incredibly on the ball, helpful and respectful. It made the whole process so much easier. This included our clearance out being completed before we had fully off-loaded as they know we are under time pressure’. In addition to the assistance and help they got in unloading the yacht, the customs officials and agent also refused to be paid their usual fees. He continued ‘I was very moved by the welcome we received and the ease of dealing with the authorities who fell over themselves to assist us!’
As we write Nick and the crew are heading back to Antigua and leave again on Sunday for Fort Lauderdale. The mercy mission completed today, we hope they enjoy their welcome home dinner at Club Sushi tonight – they most certainly deserve it!
