ANTIGUA COPS 42ND AGRIFEST SECOND PLACE Tuesday 26th February 2013
Team Fresh Produce – Grow Eat Live was the concept of the Antigua and Barbuda’s agro –product displayed during the 42ndannual Agri-Fest, which was held at Fair Grounds Estate Lower Love in St. Croix from the 16th – 18th February, 2013.
Antigua Black Pineapple, Sweet Pepper, Cucumber, Cherry Tomato, Melons, all locally grown fruits and vegetables, from Antigua & Barbuda formed the display that landed Antigua’s booth 2nd Place, extension Officer Sereno Benjamin explained.
Emphasis this year was placed on fresh fruits and vegetables, to encourage people to consume fruits and vegetables without processing, he went on to say.
Mr. Benjamin also gave credit to the agro processors and the two female farmers who teamed up with the Ministry at the Agri-fest and made a very meaningful contribution to the team placing 2nd in St. Coix.
During the opening ceremony the Governor for USVI Mr. John P. De Jongh urge the gathering to continue in agriculture as it serves as a useful purpose as a reduction in crime. People who work close to nature is less stressed and have a greater reverence for life, and are better conflict resolution.
Team Antigua and Barbuda was made up Sereno Benjamin, Anel Nicholas, Ika Fergus, Irose Henry, Team Fresh Produce and Agro processors.
