Head down to Nelson’s Dockyard National Park tomorrow (21st January, 20140 to welcome the rowers in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

This time around, two teams will arrive, the Atlantic Polo Team and Row to Recovery. The Polo team arrives at around 0930 Hrs and will be the first fours and second overall in while the Row to Recovery team gets in at 2230 Hrs. Row to Recovery is made up of two amputee soldiers, and will be the second fours in.

“Cayle Royce was injured in May 2012 whilst serving as a sharpshooter with the Brigade Reconnaissance Force in Afghanistan after he stepped on an explosive device. This resulted in the amputation of both legs above the knee, facial scarring, multiple amputations to the fingers of his left hand and neck trauma. A keen outdoorsman and traveler before the injury, Royce is looking forward to getting back into the adventure game and proving what can be achieved despite sustaining life changing injuries.

Scott Blaney suffered an above the knee amputation and soft tissue injuries from a bomb whilst conducting operations in Afghanistan in 2007. Determined to live life to the full, Blaney successfully swam across the channel in 2009 and campaigns to raise the profile of injured service personnel.

Blaney and Royce will row with Captain James Kayll of the Light Dragoons and Captain Mark Jenkins, who serves with the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Physiotherapy Officer.”

Entertainment will be on hand and the Copper and Lumber Store Restaurant will be opened.
