Member of Wings Youth Track & Field Committee, Mr. Romaine Potter presents Appreciation Certificate to Ms. Dornalyn Beazer, Marketing Manager of State Insurance Corporation.

At a meeting on Thursday, May 13, the WYT &F Committee  looked at some of the problems and hiccups that affected the program. It was conceded that a lack of sponsorship funds resulted in a shortage of some important services, example, food and refreshment for local & overseas officials and athletes, limited amount of tents for medical personnel, athletes and spectators. However, where funds were inadequate, voluntary assistance helped to produced a creditable Event.

Thanks must go out to Hutchinson (Antigua) Ltd., and State Insurance Corporation to the two companies that gave some financial assistance. Other entities who provided assistance or services were the Ministry of Sports, LIAT, A.S. Byden & Sons, Bargain Center Supermarket, Trans Caribbean Marketing, Kennedy’s Club ltd., Indies Trade, National Solid Waste, Waste Management Solutions, Central Board of Health, Illuminat, Evcon Printery, Photo Shack, Stitch World, Premier Beverages, Amarylis Hotel, Caribbean Inn, Jolly Beach Resort, Heritage Hotel, Food Brokerage Services, Christo’s Supermarket, Dagga Plant Nursery, the Antigua/Barbuda Defense Force, the Royal Antigua/Barbuda Police Force, the Antigua/Barbuda Scouts As-sociation, the 18th Antigua/Barbuda Girl Guides Association, and the Antigua/Barbuda Athletic Association.

The Liaison officers played a very important part in looking after the visiting athletes. They were Joyce O’Donoghue, Shane James, Miguelle Christopher and Solo Benjamin. 

Most, if not all sponsors and service providers have been presented Certificates ofAppreciation, or will be, shortly.

The CPTSA and the Wings Youth Track & Field Committee would like to take this opportunity in, once again, thanking all those organizations, companies and persons who provided valuable support toward the hosting of the 2nd Annual Sir Reginald  Samuel Track & Field Classic.

Jeffers Scores Big in Youth Athletic Meet
Competing in the Antigua/Barbuda Amateur Athletic Association Youth Athletic Championship over the weekend, May 15 & 16, at the YASCO Sports Complex, Meusette Jeffers took the gold in the Girl’s U15 400 metres in under 64 seconds.The young Wings talented athlete is showing great promise mainly as a quarter and half miler.

Meanwhile, Tahir Walsh led the field in the men’s Invitational 100 meters and Kevon Ryan won the boys U15 100Metres.

Athletes are preparing for the National Athletic Meet and also an Invitational Meet in  Nevis in June.

Whit Monday Relay & Fun Walk All runners, walkers, clubs, companies and organizations are kindly reminded of the 19th Annual Whit Monday 4 X 1.5 Miles Road Relay & Fun Walk, scheduled for Monday, May 24.

Participants are advised to assemble at the new Kenneth A. Gomez & Sons Business Center on Friar’s Hill Road, no later than 6:00 A.M. for final registration and transportation to the points of the Relay. The Fun Walk is expected to begin at 6:00 A.M. and will proceed southward on the Frair’s Hill Road, turn right after the cemetery on Rowan Henry St., right on Fort Road, to the old Outlet Printery, along the West Indies Oil Company and ending inside Kenneth A. Gomez Business Center.

The Relay will start at 6:30 A.M. from the K.A.G. Business Center, past the West Indies Oil Company pond, right on Marble Hill Road, left on road leading to Halcyon, down Anchorage Road and Fort Road, going east on Dickenson Bay St.turning left at the top of Dickenson Bay St., proceeding northward to the Kenneth A. Gomez & Sons Business Center.
Early registration may be done at Kenneth A. Gomez on High St., Photo Shack on Redcliffe St., or at the CKHS. Registration is $10.00EC for participants under 21 years old, and $15.00 EC over 20 years old. Categories are U15, U20, U30, U40 & Over 40 years, Male & Female.

A goup of talented young men met at the YMCA Sports Complex on Tuesday evening, May 11, showing interest in reviving the Wings senior boys basketball team. The players, among others, included Paul Hyles, Kwame Hatton, Marlon Peniston. The players will meet again on Monday night for a first practice.
Wings Youth Basketball will be holding a Fund-raising Dinner on Saturday, May 29, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Christ the King High School.

Contribution is only $20.00EC. Please Support.
