FREEMAN'S VILLE EASE PAST PARHAM
Thursday 18th August 2011

Ten-man Freeman’s Ville had enough resolve to overcome a young and talented Ascot Arcade Parham side as they won their opening Group B encounter 3-1 on Monday in the Championship Cup of the seventh annual Cool & Smooth Warriors Cup football tournament at the English Harbour Playing Field.

First-half strikes by Michael Samuel and Coy Hunte helped the ‘Village men to a 2-0 half-time advantage before Parham reduced the deficit early in the second period through Kelvin Ferrance.

Parham did not help their cause as they missed a penalty and although Freeman’s Ville’s goalkeeper Davian Dunn was sent off for abusive language to the referee the Parhamities failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage.

Samuel shot Freeman’s Ville ahead on 15 minutes with a skidding drive on a wet surface from about 25 yards. Hunte then put his team in the driver’s seat when he struck a delightful free-kick into the roof of the net from outside the area four minutes from the interval.

Parham rallied strongly after the break and should have drawn level but after Kelvin Ferrance made 2-1 on 55 minutes, Tito Lewis squandered a penalty awarded during the incident which led to Dunn’s dismissal.

Freeman’s Ville rode their luck and regrouped before Robert Abraham sealed the win when he demonstrated to Lewis how to take a penalty midway through the second-half.

With the three points, Freeman’s Ville moved to the top of the standings of their group as the first match between last year’s beaten finalists Bullets and Hill Top was not played. Bullets failed to report for the game although organizers extended the start time by 45 minutes to accommodate them.

In Tuesday’s matches, in Group D; Potters, who have replaced Willikies, oppose Grenades at 4:45pm and English Harbour Youths take on hosts inet Young Warriors at 6:30pm, venue: English Harbour. In the other game, home side John Hughes entertain Shot Gun at 4:45pm.
