Youth Basketball Of America (YBOA) has once again come to the assistance of the Wings Youth Basketball.
Secretary of YBOA, Natalie Shelton presented a number of bas-ketballs and knapsacks to Mrs. Tansy Pile-Wade, Secretary of Wings Youth Basketball, during the 15th Annual YBOA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, September 30—October 2, 2010.
The gifts will be used to boost the Wings youth basketball pro-gram and also as prizes at the 11th Annual Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out in Antigua, November 24 –28, 2010.
Mrs. Tansy Pile-Wade was able to sit in at the Conference on some very important organizational and fund-raising issues that would benefit the Wings Sports Club. It is hoped that some of these fund-raising ideas would be able to be implemented successfully in Antigua/Barbuda.
Wings Sports Club has been participating in YBOA tournaments and International Basketball Camps since 2003. YBOA in return has been supporting the Wings Youth Basketball program and in particular, the Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out for almost as long.
The feature address at the Banquet on the opening night of the 15th Annual YBOA Conference was NBA center, of the Orlando Magic, Adonal Foyle.
Adonal Foyle, a native of St. Vincent & the Grenadines is the founder and president of both Democracy Matters and Kerosene Lamp Foundation. Foyle started his non-profit Kerosene Lamp Foundation (KLF), in 2005 to reach out to the youth of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Foyle has also recruited other NBA players to assist him in refurbishing neighborhood basketball courts in the Caribbean island.
Besides YBOA ambassadors from the USA and the International Community, other dignitaries in attendance at the Conference, to mention a few, were Frank Streety, better known as ¨DShake & Bake,¡¬ one of the original members of the Harlem Globetrotters, Vince Carter (sr) father of NBA guard, Vince Carter of the Or-lando Magic, Dr. David Janney, pastor of Orlando Baptist Church and Founder of World Hope.
According to Mrs. Pile-Wade, the experience gained at the Conference was well worth it, and thanks the YBOA on behalf of the Wings Youth Basketball for the timely gifts .
