MINI TENNIS 2008 WINNERS PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY REPORT

On Wednesday 6th. October 2010 saw the hosting of the George Hourani Cool and Smooth Mini Tennis Prize Giving and Awards Ceremony at the National Archives.
The Master of Ceremony for the program was Ms. Lisa Aida Sandy.
The program started off with all in attendance singing the National Anthem, this was followed by a prayer which was offered by Mr. Austin Richards Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports.
Mr. Peter Quinn the Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Association was the first speaker, Mr. Quinn endorsed the Mini Tennis program as one of the Initiatives of the Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Association, he also went on to say that the schools program is a grass root program which will lead to full scale tennis in the National Program.
The Assistant Director of Sports Mr. Evans "Jawakie Jones " was the next speaker. He spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Sports, he eluded to the hard work that is being done in the Ministries Tennis unit and made a note that it is a unit with has one Coach and one Coordinator. Mr. Jones also thanked the Sponsor, the P.E. Teachers and students for their hard work. Mr. Jones also played a great role in securing the Sponsor for the Mini Tennis Program.
The representative of the Sponsor Mr.Hanna Hourani spoke on behalf of the company George Hourani Cool and Smooth. He stressed hard work, dedication and unity between the competitors of each school. At the end of this speech it was time to hand out te prizes. Trophies were given to the Schools starting with Mixed Doubles 3rd., 2nd. and then first. Prizes were also given to the M. V. P. both boys and girls. Trophies were given in the singles event in the prospective order 3rd. 2nd. and first. Prices were given to the M.V.P. Boy and Girl.
It came to the final Tournament which was the Doubles event, and Trophies were given out to 3rd., 2nd and first. Prizes were also given the M. V. P. girls and boys. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Francine Harvey Greaux who is a Teacher at the St. John's Lutheran Primary. This presentation unfortunately was for tournaments held in 2008. Because of numerous problems the Mini Tennis Competition has benn non existent for the year 2009. With the commitment of the sponsors and a revived vigor of the Tennis unit in 2010. The first tournament of the school year should take place some time in December if all goes well
