ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA OLYMPIC AND COMMONWEALTH GAMES ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES ITS PARTICIPATION IN THE 2010 COMMONWEALTH GAMES TO BE HELD IN DELHI, INDIA

Antigua and Barbuda Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association announces its participation in the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi, India. The event will run from the 3rd – 14th October 2010.
Antigua and Barbuda will be represented in 5 sporting disciplines; Athletics, Cycling, Shooting, Swimming and Boxing. The delegation will comprise 19 athletes, 9 officials. Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Neville Fenton is appointed as the Chef de Mission along with NOC Executive Member, Daryl Matthew as General Team Manager. Sports Medicine Association appointed Dr. KK Singh as the Team Doctor.
The Antigua and Barbuda National Olympic Committee specially invited Antigua Sporting Hero, Sir Vivian Richards as Antigua’s Games Ambassador. Sir Vivian Richards is considered highly regarded Cricket Legend in India where he will be carrying out his ambassadorial role by engaging in several networking meetings and media appearances. He will also involve and assisting the athletes in motivational and pep talk to strengthen the athlete’s confidence. Minister of Sports, Senator the Honorable. Winston Williams is invited by the Commonwealth Games Federation to attend the Commonwealth Sports Minister Meeting which is held every two years and will be held, Monday 4th October. NOC’s President, Senator the Honorable, E.P. Chet Greene and Secretary General, Mr. Cliff Williams will attend the Commonwealth Games General Assembly to the held at the Ashok Hotel, Saturday, 2nd October as well as being CGF special invitee to the Opening Ceremony on 3rd October and attending several meeting surrounding the Games.
It is still uncertain whether Antigua’s National 100m Record Holder and 4th World Champion, Sporting Ambassador, Daniel Bailey will be representing Antigua and Barbuda at the 2010 Delhi Games. National 200m specialist, USA based Brendan Christian also uncertain of attending this prestigious Game. The National Olympic Committee is still encouraging Antigua and Barbuda’s flagship athletes to consider participating.
2010 Commonwealth Games with be held in the Commonwealth county of India in the city of New Delhi and will host 71 Commonwealth countries competing in 17 sports, from the October 3rd – 14th in what is deem as a friendly Games. The Commonwealth Games is the 2nd largest games after the Olympics.
