NEWS UPDATE FROM THE FIRST YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES BEING HELD IN SINGAPORE!!!!! Monday 23rd August 2010
Congratulations to 16 year old Tahir Walsh who reached the Gold Medal Finals ran in the Boys 100 metres Group A category in the Bishan Stadium last evening and placed fourth in the event with a time of 10.71 seconds. His reaction time was the third fastest in the group of 8 athletes in the sprint. Tahir also beat his personal best time of 10.76 seconds.
The Office of the Minister of State: Sports, Local Government and Special Projects extends heartiest congratulations to Tahir. Every success is wished for his future endeavours.
Jalil Salmon reached the non-medaling finals, Group C in the 400 metres. He placed 4th with a time of 52.58 seconds with the second fastest reaction time from a field of 5 athletes.
Kenryca Francis reached the non medaling finals Group B in the 3000 metres. She place 7th with a time of 11.11.11 m.
The OMS SLS commends the athletes on their efforts as well as the coaches, trainers and parents for their strong support for our young athletes.
The National Olympic Association and its international affiliate are also to be commended for facilitating the participation of our athletes in this event.
