WARRIORS, FORT ROAD SCORE WINS IN WARRIORS CUP OPENERS
Friday 20th August 2010

Tnoy Andrew scored a quick-fire hat-trick to spur Young Warriors to emphatic 7-1 win over newcomers Young Boys on the first night of matches Thursday in the Open championship category of the sixth annual Warriors Cup tournament sponsored by Harney Motors.

Andrew struck in the space of five devastating minutes after half-time to help Warriors’ to their come-from-behind win after Young Boys, a team made up of players from Clare Hall and Potters, had taken a surprise fifth minute lead through Omari Henry at YASCO.

Daryl Burton equalised for Warriors before Zadiq Hampson headed them into the lead after the goalkeeper blundered a routine cross. Andrew’s triple conversion put the host club into the ascendency before he was substituted. Clarence Marsh and Randall Scott completed the scoring late on.

National Under 17 striker Elijah McDonald netted twice as Warriors Under 17s also recovered from going behind to defeat 5Ps 3-2 in the second and most competitive match of the triple-header.
McDonald, fresh from a tryout with English Championship side, Reading, drew Warriors level a minute after they fell behind to Christopher Bryce goal in the eighth minute. Shaquille Alexander restored 5Ps lead from a free-kick as they lead 2-1 at half-time. Romario Brathwaite scored from the penalty spot to make 2-2 after 48 minutes before McDonald netted the winner 15 minutes from full-time.

Fort Road ensured the host did not walk away with a hat-trick of wins as they out-scored Young Warriors 4-2 in the Under 15 age-group.

Gunito Jeffrey scored twice in the 18th and 58th minutes to inspire Fort Road who were watched by their Parliamentary Representative Harold Lovell, the minister of finance.
Rashawn Henry had put Warriors ahead on 10 minutes but Shacqueil Forbes replied for Fort Road three minutes later before Jeffrey gave them the lead. Jahreed Browne levelled the match in the 48th minute. However, Jeffrey’s second goal and Ezikel Thomas’ late strike secured Fort Road’s win.

Matches continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday at YASCO.
