AHTA ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE AT AGM Wednesday 30th May 2012
The Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association held its Annual General Meeting at the Sandals Grande Antigua last Thursday 24th May. The main agenda item was the election of a new Executive following the departure of Chairman Alistair Forrest last month to take up a new position in Barbados. The Board of the Association was elected in 2011 to serve for two years so only one position of Director remained to be filled. After a voting process from the hotel membership that position was filled by Christopher Eastman, the new General manager at Curtain Bluff.
The membership then proceeded to elect Andrew Hedley, Managing Director of Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort to serve as Chairman for the coming year. Andrew is no stranger to Antigua having arrived on the island in 2004 from Point Grace in the Turks and Caicos to take up the position of General Manager of Carlisle Bay. Andrew subsequently moved to Jumby Bay in January 2010. Andrew brings a wealth of experience in the upscale hotel sector having also worked at Cap Juluca in Anguilla and Peter Island Resort in the BVI. Andrew is originally from Kenya and has worked in Botswana and Tanzania before settling with his family in Caribbean.
Vernon Jeffers, General Manager of Jolly Beach Resort & Spa was elected to the position of 1st Vice Chairman and Alex deBrito, Senior VP Hotel Operations with Elite Island Resorts was elected as 2nd Vice Chairman.
