PREPARING THE NEXT GENERATION Tuesday 6th March 2012
Supervisors and middle management form the foundation of any successful company and are even more essential in a service environment. However very few supervisors are adequately prepared for the important tasks that they being required to perform.
Little formal training is available and most learn on the job.
Recognizing this need the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA) in partnership with University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus has undertaken to train supervisors and middle management in the tourism sector to render local businesses more competitive and better equipped to fight in a now global market.
Starting last December nearly 50 employees from 13 AHTA member hotels and tourism businesses attended classes facilitated by Ms Shirlene Nibbs twice per weeks for ten weeks.
The enthusiasm and motivation of the participants was remarkable and near on 100% of the students completed the course.
At a ceremony last week on the Warri Pier at Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts all participants were presented with certificates and received words of encouragement from Ian Benn, Principal of the UWI Open campus in Antigua and Alistair Forrest, Chairman of the AHTA.
A further 25 students will embarking on the next 10 weeks of training commencing on Monday March 12th once again facilitated by Ms Nibbs.
“Today’s supervisors are the managers of tomorrow and we will continue to provide them with the tools to advance their careers in the industry” stated Neil Forrester, General Manager of the AHTA.
