SUPERYACHT CHALLENGE WELCOMING PARTY
Thursday 6th March 2025

The 2025 Superyacht Challenge Antigua pre-regatta briefing was held prior to the start of racing. A stand-alone race before the main series will be held tomorrow Thursday 06 March. Prior to the start, competitors can choose to race around Antigua (48nm) or take part in a shorter race of 28nm off the South Coast of Antigua. The first start will be at 0900 AST. The starting sequence can be viewed on the Official Notice Board: Notice to Competitors #4.

Superyacht Challenge Antigua PRO, Hank Stuart welcomed participants to the briefing and outlined the regatta’s schedule, including introductions of boat captains and the members of their race teams that will be safety officers and in charge of communications.

A presentation from Bob Osborn & Bob Farley highlighted the Antiguan Scholarship programme for the  International Yacht Restoration School of Technology & Trades (IYRS) based in Newport. “The program is looking to raise money to support more students in their vocational training program,” commented Bob Osborn.  “The program helps young people in Antigua get certified in marine trades like small engine repair, hydraulics, and electronics. You can support the program by making a donation to help fund more student scholarships.” More information is available at: http://superyachtchallengeantigua.com/iyrs-antigua-scholarship-program

Shirley Robertson, Manager of the Superyacht Racing Association (SYRA) commented on the hard work that Paul Deeth and the SYCA team put in to get superyachts together  to race in Antigua.

“The event has great momentum and a special way about it,” commented Shirley. SYRA has strong support and appreciation for the Superyacht Challenge Antigua and the way the organisers have maintained the event’s focus on safety, enjoyment and fair racing.”

SYCA International Judge Gordon Stredwick discussed rule changes and safety protocols, highlighting the importance of early communication and strategic planning. Stredwick also emphasised some of the new World Sailing rules and Appendix SY changes at the briefing. He encouraged competitors to participate in rules clarification meetings with the protest committee if needed.

PRO Stuart introduced ABSAR’s Johnathan Cornelius to the briefing. Antigua & Barbuda Search and Rescue and his trained team of volunteers will be supporting throughout the Superyacht Challenge Antigua. Hank Stuart closed the briefing by saying: “The philosophy for the SYCA Race Committee is to provide competitors with a safe fair and fun Regatta, Cheers, everybody. Thank you.”

The Welcome Cocktail Party was held at Boom Gunpowder House, which is part of The Admiral’s Inn. With superb views of English Harbour, Yacht owners, race crew, and invited guests, enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere with complimentary drinks and canapes.
