"Great hotel in a wonderful location" - Reviewed on March 17, 2014
I stayed at the Trade Winds Hotel for 9 nights when visiting Antigua for 3 one-day international cricket matches between England and the West Indies. The hotel was recommended by my travel agent and I could not have been more pleased. It is ideally located on a steep hill above Dickenson Bay on the North West of the Island - about 20 minutes from both the airport and St Johns. Accommodation comprises a series of terraced one and 2-story buildings down the side of the hill, set in lovely gardens and with fantastic views over the Bay and the Caribbean. Rooms are en-suite and are spacious and cool with tiled floors and high ceilings. Indeed, although the outside temperature was 28 degrees I did not need the air conditioning provided. Rooms are beautifully furnished with a queen size bed, settee, armchairs, desk, chest of drawers, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. All rooms have a balcony with sea views. I could not have been made more welcome by the friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel also had a lovely terrace with freshwater swimming pool and sun loungers, and a decked area with tables and chairs. Alongside was the restaurant (The Bay House Restaurant and Bar) which is covered but open on 3 sides, with magnificent views. The cuisine is equally magnificent and includes many local delicacies, superbly cooked and beautifully presented. Every day, the hotel provides a free shuttle service to and from Dickenson Bay to those who wish to laze on the beach. I normally holiday on 5 star cruise ships and felt that service, facilities and food in the Trade Winds Hotel was well up to that standard. I cannot recommend this hotel too highly. I should also mention that, as part of its exceptional service to guests, the hotel uses a preferred taxi service when possible - Sammy's. Lewis Sammy or his wife Hilary drove me around most days, always on time, meeting me at arranged points for return trips and always with a smile.
