WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK MARCH 10TH - 16TH Wednesday 13th February 2013
"As we gear up to launch another World Glaucoma Week, we hear that globally, 60.5 million had glaucoma in 2010 and that given the aging of the world's population, this number may increase to almost 80 million by 20201. With the amazing strides in the science, technology and medicine of glaucoma, still too many are unaware they have the disease. What is urgently needed is a counter-epidemic of change in glaucoma knowledge and awareness in our populations.
But no matter how much technology we introduce into our lives, it is human to human interaction that will provide the most profound changes in knowledge and behaviour. We need our message of EARLY DETECTION / LIFELONG TREATMENT to go VIRAL and I truly believe glaucoma patient support groups hold the power to create that needed social epidemic. This World Glaucoma Week, I invite you all to join hands with us as we redouble our efforts to weave an impenetrable web of Glaucoma Awareness". - Dr. Jillia Bird Antigua, West Indies President, World Glaucoma Patient Association.

We need your help in making the 2013 edition of World Glaucoma Week a success, so please:
• Organize a screening event in your local institute/hospital
• Give a lecture to a patient support group
• Participate in radio & TV shows to talk about glaucoma and to answer questions
• Contact newspapers to publish information about glaucoma
