NO GIFT TOO SMALL Monday 23rd January 2012
Conrad 'Lukie' Luke of R. K. Luke and Sons (and the Leonard 'Tim' Hector Memorial Committee), Adventure Antigua (recently named best excursion in Caribbean Travel and Leisure’s People Choice Awards), Barbara Arrindell (author of Antigua My Antigua), and Floree Williams (author of Pink Teacups and Blue Dresses) are the companies and/or individuals which have so far signed on to support the Wadadli Pen Challenge 2012 being held in partnership with the Best of Books.
Wadadli Pen is a literary arts competition which has, since 2004, encouraged and promoted the artistic development of young people in Antigua and Barbuda, with emphasis on the literary arts.
We’ve put out the call for submission of stories/poems from young Antiguans and Barbudans and are counting on the support of patrons (corporations and individuals) to reward their efforts.
For helping us get the word out, we have to thank the media, especially the free advertising generously offered and given by online sites Antiguanice.com and 365antigua.com.
We believe that investing in something that will encourage young people to channel their emotions positively, express themselves creatively, and strive can only bode well for our collective future. Wadadli Pen is open to primary and secondary school students, and young adults up to age 35.
Winners will be selected in three age categories – 12 and under, 13 to 17, and 18 to 35; a top three overall will also be selected. There will also be special prizes for the best stories under the themes ‘Origins’ and ‘Liberate Love’. With generous patronage, we can be sure that the reward matches the effort.
