Press Release - The Wadadli Youth Pen Prize has, since it first launched its annual Challenge for young writers in Antigua and Barbuda in 2004, depended on its friends – those individuals and businesses that step up to contribute to youth and arts development. This year, one of the first is Art. Culture. Antigua – the arts media online platform – which, shortly after the February 28th submission deadline, contacted us “to once again come on board and contribute to the Wadadli Pen prize packages”. They first stepped forward with a cash contribution in 2017; and step up again, unasked, in 2018.
Wadadli Pen has, since the beginning, operated using the model that little little full basket, packaging the individual prizes, big and small, in to incentive packages for the writers taking the Challenge. The organizers, while they continue to reach out to past patrons, want any one reading this to follow the lead of Art. Culture. Antigua, and reach out and give. The project organizers can be reached at wadadlipen@gmail.com.
Wadadli Pen Challenge 2018 is winner take all. The last Wadadli Pen Winner Take All was in 2015 with the Flash Fiction Challenge. This time around, the entries can be in any genre, creativity is encouraged, and must engage in some way with Antiguan and Barbudan/Caribbean history. More details and submission form, which is added this year for easier processing of entries, can be found at https://wadadlipen.wordpress.com/wadadli-pen-2018
Prizes will also be on offer from project partners the Best of Books, which typically contributes book prizes and the Challenge plaque, and Antiguan and Barbudan author and Wadadli Pen founder Joanne C. Hillhouse, who will be contributing copies of her books, the most recent of which are the children’s picture books With Grace and Lost! A Caribbean Sea Adventure. Wadadli Pen would also like to thank Antiguanice.com which has for many years assisted with online promotion, and all local media that continue to help spread the word. Wadadli Pen exists to nurture and showcase the literary arts in Antigua and Barbuda.
