SPEKTAKULA RETURNS WITH EXCITING LINE-UP Thursday 3rd May 2012
The trendsetter in pre-Carnival fetes, Calypso Spektakula, returns to the entertainment scene over the Labour Day weekend, with an explosive show that will feature the best of the soca and calypso world from Antigua and the region.
With 16 years in the arena, Spektakula will reemerge on Sunday, May 6, with a cast that includes calypso elder Sugar Aloes, All Rounder, K Rich, Erphaan Alves, Prophet Benjamin, Chucky, Supa Jigga TC, and Shal Marshall.
Tian Winter and iConic, Tizzy and El A Kru, King Hard Knaxx, Lee P Ching n Charlie X, Richie Francis, King Zachari and Young Destroyer will be among the artistes flying the Antigua & Barbuda flag.
The Spektakula Promotions/DSC collaboration will be held at Antigua Recreation Grounds, starting promptly at 9 pm. The Chief Rocker Sly Spektakula J will control the proceedings.
DSC Marketing Manager Neil Cochrane said the company went back to the original objectives with this year’s production, engaging artistes with chart toppers, as well as calypso stalwarts and young soca rebels.
“The event is the headline, not any particular performer,” Cochrane said. “We didn’t go for a single anchor to headline the show. What we went for instead – in keeping with the original purpose of the show to expose established and new talent – was big songs, exciting performers and hot, new blood. We are also asking the public to stay tuned, since big announcements could come.”
Early bird tickets are available, until close of business Thursday, for $40. The ticket outlets are Super Power Electronics, Kennedy’s Liquor World, Bargain Centre, Perry Bay and Ken’s Club.
Financial Comptroller of DSC Promotions Geoffrey Simmons confirmed that the offer of additional discounts for people who present their stubs from the recently held Caribbean Comedy Festival is being honored; however this will only happen at the Ken’s Club ticket outlet. Regular admission is EC$ 50
