ANTIGUA YOUTH SAILORS PARTICIPATE IN OPTIMIST EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014 Tuesday 29th July 2014
Two of Antigua's youth sailors participated in the Optimist European Championships 2014 in Dublin, Ireland from July 12 to 20. Two hundred and fifty competitors participated from 44 different countries.
Rocco Falcone finished in 32nd place in the Silver fleet and was 82nd overall in the fleet of 250 competitors. His best race finish was a 16th place.
Louis Bavay finished 36th in the Silver fleet and was 86th overall. His best race finish was an exceptional 5th place!
Racing conditions were very challenging for the young sailors. There were wind speeds varying from 7 to 25 knots with plenty of fog, cold and sometimes even sun.
It was a great event and it provided tremendous international experience for the young sailors who enjoyed it very much and made plenty of new friends during the Championships.
The new European champion is Enzo Balanger from Antigua's neighbour to the south, Guadeloupe. Enzo is great friends with both Rocco and Louis. Congratulations to all the young men for their fantastic achievements!
