RUM, SUN & CCR FUN!
Friday 10th January 2014

Wine tastings, impromptu jam sessions, tapas master classes, a Sunday session at Shirley Heights, BBQ's a plenty and a barrel of rum for the winners- just a few of the lasting memories from the inaugural CCR 2013, which draws to a close this week.

All crews have safely completed the 3000nm crossing from Lanzarote to Antigua and what an adventure they have had! The resounding opinion across the fleet- fantastic trade wind sailing for the duration of the crossing, and a wonderful atmosphere thanks to the timing of the event and the personable service from the CCR team. Fabrizio from Tjula commented “I feel so loved, this is the best regatta I have ever known. The people are what makes it special”. Eric (nominated chef on Jinthe) made a heartfelt, impromptu speech at the prize giving on Monday thanking John, Mikaela and the team for a fantastic time “It says on your website that you provide a family type atmosphere, and it’s true: We all feel like family. Thank you, we all hope to come on our own boats in the future!”

Some of the most notable highlights from the CCR 2013 include;

The Spanish crew of Tjula arriving to Jolly and deciding they want to cook delicious paella for all the crews. This turned into one of those magical afternoons you can’t plan: music, singing, laughter and later a rum tasting and much dancing.

Hearing the top speed on Jinthe was 22.8 knots with only three breakage free days!

Ocean Phoenix welcoming Southern Child to Jolly Harbour – the bay was filled with hoots, whoops and cheers – we hope the turtles weren’t frightened off!

Alan’s (one half of Seminole Wind) guitar playing and dulcet tones. Lovely, we’re so glad your guitar made it across with you!

The uniforms of Tjula – they take it seriously! Right down to matching shorts, socks & shoes – they must have about 15 different colour crew shirts. They assured us they didn’t all wear the same underwear!

The thoroughly entertaining blogs of Seminole Wind & Southern Child.

The Sailing Wives & Girlfriends (SWAGS) arriving in Jolly Harbour to help their beloved crews celebrate and welcome them back on dry land. Also, the family members that made a special appearance in Lanzarote before the start. We are so pleased you were able to share a snippet of their adventure.

Not believing that Marina won the shortest shorts competition on Southern Child – then seeing them for ourselves. They are SHORT!

Having a fabulous send off from Marina Rubicon – you guys are fantastic and we can’t wait to return next year.

Having such an eclectic range of nationalities and seeing everyone grow together in spirit & friendship.

And finally: to two boats who didn’t quite make it - Furibonda (retired to Tenerife) & Sputnik (did not make the start in time) we hope to see in the CCR next year!

The Crossing times...
Ocean Phoenix: 13 days, 10 hours, 23 minutes & 31 seconds
Jinthe: 14 days, 15 hours, 9 minutes & 49 seconds
Southern Child: 16 days, 5 hours, 44 minutes & 40 seconds
Tjula: 17 days, 7 hours, 42 minutes & 31 seconds
Seminole Wind: 18 days, 11 hours, 43 minutes & 12 seconds
