INAUGURAL BARBADOS TO ANTIGUA OCEAN RACE TO FINISH THURSDAY Wednesday 23rd January 2013
The inaugural Barbados to Antigua Ocean Race starts today from Barbados and is expected to finish off English Harbour, Antigua between approximately 3:00 and 5:00 pm tomorrow, Thursday, January 24. To date there are only four yachts entered for this new event, the largest of which is the Reichel Pugh 72 Idea of London (photo above). The race will cover approximately 265 miles of open ocean between Barbados and Antigua and will offer some exceptionally challenging racing. See sailing instructions here.
This event was conceived as a feeder race to the Superyacht Challenge Antigua which will take place from Friday the 25th through Sunday the 27th of January. Many yachts have just completed the annual Round Barbados Race and have very little time to get to Antigua for the Superyacht Challenge so the race was designed to get them to their destination as quickly as possible. This race promises to develop into a popular event over the coming years.
