BRITISH OCEAN ROWER TO ARRIVE IN ANTIGUA IN EARLY 2013
Thursday 22nd November 2012

In January 2013, British Ocean Rower and Adventurer, Charlie Pitcher, will set off in the world's most advanced ocean rowing boat ever built, in an attempt to break the World Record for the fastest crossing of the 3000 mile Atlantic Ocean (between La Gomera and Antigua) completely solo, unassisted, and pushing his body to the limits. A short film will be professionally cut on his return and put forward to a number of UK broadcasters.

The TransAtlanticSolo2013 campaign will be aiming to raise at least £100,000 for injured Royal Marines and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Supporters so far include the likes of Johnny Wilkinson, James Cracknell and Sir Ranulph Fiennes. In addition, Charlie is aiming to inspire young individuals through talks in schools, clubs, institutions and Great Ormond Street Hospital, to motivate them to try something new, and to rise to whatever challenges they may face. This is something he has completed successfully in the past at over 30 talks and wishes to use this challenge as a vehicle to help continue this, but with greater reach. He will also be complementing this with a book on his campaigns later next year.

In physical and mental preparation, Charlie will be working closely with world renowned trainer, Professor Greg Whyte who has worked closely with the likes of the GB Rowing team, Sir Chris Hoy and Usain Bolt and features regularly on the BBC. The campaign is currently being featured on his website, which receives 10,000 unique visitors a month.

Charlie has already gained the support of his local media such as the Essex Chronicle, BBC Look East and BBC Radio Essex who have committed to following the campaign's entirety. BBC Look East are in fact filming a feature next week. Saga Magazine have also guaranteed a front cover feature on Charlie's return. We are also undergoing talks with the Daily Telegraph and Sky News regarding a media partnership. Finally, having had a successful launch event in London last month, we are currently organising a national press event at the Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames later this month with Double Olympic Gold Medallist Rower Pete Reed MBE and others from the 2012 winning boat.
