20TH ANNUAL SAMU'S CUP HEADS TO ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA Wednesday 4th May 2011
The SAMU's Cup is an unique event of the French Sailing Federation. It has been held annually since 1991 and is a gathering of members of Medical Emergency teams from all over France.
While not a racing event as such, this is a sailing event that when the wind comes and the sea widens, the crews must demonstrate responsiveness and cohesion, competence and experience. These are the values that bind the SAMU's crews throughout the year in the medical emergency field.
This year the event will start in Guadeloupe and will arrive in Jolly Harbour Marina, Antigua on the 28th of May where crews will clear Customs and Immigration and will then enjoy an exciting marina party that evening. The following day the event will take participants to Barbuda where they will stay for a couple of days of exploration until the 31st of May, when they will head to Green Island in Nonsuch Bay, Antigua. Finally, the event will set sail to English Harbour on the 1st of June where everyone will disembark and head to Shirley Heights for a party with live steel band music from sunset well into the night. The yachts will head back to Guadeloupe the following day.
For 20 years the SAMU's Cup has been combining emergency crews with the sea. The event is open to monohulls and catamarans over 30 feet in length and is classified according to the French National Handicap.
The sea is an infinite space of freedom and passion. But it is also a demanding environment where dangers and tragedies are always close and where security is an imperative. This indispensable week-long meeting of Emergency crews on the water allows the public - the main beneficiary of their efforts - an opportunity to meet with emergency crews enjoying themselves on the water.
Welcome SAMU's crews to Antigua and Barbuda! Enjoy your stay and we hope to see you here again next year!
