ABSAR FUNDRAISER PLANNED FOR APRIL 3, 2011 Wednesday 23rd March 2011
ABSAR (Antigua & Barbuda Search and Rescue) is a non-profit, volunteer-run, donation-based charity, which provides search and rescue assistance to mariners in and around Antigua & Barbuda, and emergency medical care to the communities of English and Falmouth Harbours, with its Emergency Rescue Vehicles and Medic Station at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. ABSAR also supports various regattas throughout the season including the RORC Caribbean 600 Race, Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta and Antigua Sailing Week.
Each year ABSAR responds to more call outs – In 2010, it responded to a record 460 Calls! as follows:
• Medical cases 400+
• Emergency Response Vehicle Calls 72
• Search And Rescue Assists 20
• Search And Rescue Launches 9
• Aerial Search 1
• Regattas Supported 5
• Trans-Atlantic Row Boats 30
• Vessel Fires 1
Following the overwhelming support it received for its fundraising dinner last year, ABSAR is planning a similar event on Sunday 3rd April, at Abracadabra Restaurant in English Harbour. ALL proceeds will go directly to ABSAR as the whole community comes together to donate whatever it can to help make the evening a success and keep ABSAR’s costs low!
This year, Premier Cru of Premier Beverages is donating the wine tasting, ‘Rocket’ the delicious dinner, and Paolo and Angelo Caputo are kindly providing use of Abracadabra’s as a venue. Following dinner there will be some fun with a ‘night at the races’, before dancing under the stars . . . and a silent auction of exquisite items and vacations.
If you are able to donate something towards the silent auction, please email or call Caroline Bladder at 464 9831 – all businesses and individuals who make a donation will have their names printed on a card of thanks at each table.
The purpose of the evening is to raise much needed funds for ABSAR - a team of committed volunteers led by Jonathan Cornelius, who give selflessly of their time to help others in need.
