e’re sad to report the accidental death of Peter Glasgow, a long-time day worker at Jolly Harbour Marina and Boatyard.  He died as a result of injuries he sustained in a terrible fall in the yard.  Festus Isaac, Manager of Jolly Harbour Marina and Boatyard, remembers Peter:

“Peter first came to Antigua back in 1991 aboard the new Kokomo Cat that had been built in St. Vincent across the street from Peter’s home in Calliqua.  As he arrived off the boat and cleared Immigration, Peter started looking for work.  It was then that I met him and after a short interview I employed him to work on a project boat with me.  Peter did not have much experience in the work of fibreglassing and varnishing but he was eager to learn and find a source of income.

Peter worked alongside me for a year and a half while I taught him his trade which he perfected over the years.  Hence he was able to work in Jolly Harbour providing a service to boaters unlike any other.  Peter was a perfectionist and his clients can and often do attest to that.  The quality of his work was always impeccable.  He was the envy of the other day workers since he was a non-national and carried such a marketable name that he had built over the years he worked in Jolly Harbour Marina and Boatyard.

From time to time Peter would call on his adversaries to provide them with work.  He showed he was a generous person and liked being his brother’s keeper.  He was always listening to a CD of Bob Marley or Peter Tosh who he thought gave him the wisdom to carry on in this terrible world.  He recited always the words ‘I am That I am, I am That I am’.  He simply believed that he was here to work and provide good service to his clients and also to provide for his family who he often spoke of and of the love he had for them.

Between the time Peter had the accident until his death, the boatyard took a transition and many who had never spoken to him did speak about his goodness and the way he approached his fellow man and life in general.

Peter is gone but he won’t be forgotten.”

As we say goodbye to a husband, father and friend, Peter’s memory will continue through family, friends and the many people he touched in his short life.
