OCEAN GLOBE ROUND-THE-WORLD
Tuesday 26th September 2023

With 4000 miles to go, Maiden, with Antiguan Junella King aboard, is still in third place in the Ocean Globe first leg.

The leading boats have slowed up as they approach the doldrums and speeds are not reaching above five knots. This is when the fleet compresses and the boats at the back start to make up some distance, but they too will face the doldrums, at which point the leaders will be back in the breeze and on their way to Cape Town.

Maiden, at 58ft, is racing  hard,  neck and neck with the Italian boat, Translated 9, the Swan 65. Translated 9 is currently sitting first overall in IRC ranking,  4th in line honours, but it’s too close to call.
