I was so excited to arrive back in Antigua on Sunday evening after a very busy summer in Canada spent working mainly on projects related to yachting in Antigua – the development of Antigua’s Yachting Insider in conjunction with Antiguanice.com and getting familiar with my new role as Chairman of the Regatta Organising Committee of Antigua Sailing Week 2011.
It has certainly been an eye-opening summer for me! I always knew that Antigua’s yachting industry remained vibrant in the summer months, but I didn’t realize until now just how hard people work year-round towards making so many exciting events happen which continue to ensure that Antigua is the place to be if you’re a yachting enthusiast, especially in the height of the season from November until May each year! There is simply no end to the planning, organisation and marketing of these events!
We’re very excited with this Issue’s lead article which is a personal story of two young Antiguans who were privileged to be able to join the brand new J-Class yacht, Lionheart, on her maiden voyage from Holland to Palma in late August/early September of this year. And there is plenty of other news to report about exciting developments in the yachting industry in Antigua – from updates on events and regattas to environmental issues of concern to all yachtsmen. You will find details of the JHR Annual Regatta to be held in mid-November, an update on entries for the Antigua Charter Yacht Show, information about the 21st Karibik Trophy Event which returns to Antigua yet again, a preview of the upcoming Nelson’s Pursuit Race and a news release about Antigua Sailing Week’s Ocean Series, among many other stories.
So read on for all the latest news about Antigua’s busy yachting season which is quickly approaching. In November we will begin publishing the Insider twice-monthly so don’t forget to send us your news and updates so we don’t miss including them in the next issue!
