Dear super yacht colleagues,

We all are aware of the enormous impact that plastic pollution has on land and sea. You probably know some of the good initiatives to fight against plastic, like Asociación Ondine, The Seabin project, CLEANSEAS, Turn the Tide on Plastic in the Volvo Ocean Race, The Ocean Cleanup and the Plastic Soup Foundation, pointing their actions towards removing plastic from sea and land and creating awareness about the impact plastic has on the world.

After running super yachts for 10 years now, I feel that we, captains and crew, also should take responsibility by looking critical to our industry to see what we can change to reduce the amount of plastic use. A big step would be to stop or at least reduce the enormous use of plastic bottled water on board of (super) yachts. With all the technology of water treatment systems and consumer friendly and healthy ways in presenting water this is possible.

Via my survey titled: Turn the tide on plastic, also on super yachts (link at the bottom of this post) we can get a clear picture of the water drinking habits, thoughts and awareness on board of our yachts. Please complete this on behalf of the yacht that you work on. I am happy with the results that I received already but THE MORE YACHTS PARTICIPATE, THE BETTER THE OVERVIEW. It is straight forward and doesn’t take much of your time (average is 4 minutes).
