SPENDING CHRISTMAS IN ANTIGUA: A YACHTING RACE AND PARTY PARADISE Tuesday 19th December 2017
The Christmas lights are up and the marinas around Antigua are full of top class mega yachts, spectacular sailing yachts, racing boats and cruisers alike. ‘Tis the season!
If you’re spending Christmas in Antigua, the yachting and racing scene is just as busy as the party scene. Starting the races over the next couple of weeks, the Budget Marine High Tide Series hosted by Antigua Yacht Club sees three days of racing over 21st, 23rd, and 26th December, welcoming CSA rated boats for competition class, or cruisers, classic yachts and workboats for a fun, non-rated class.
The last race of the year is the Nelson’s Pursuit Race on New Year’s Eve, an afternoon of fun racing inviting all-comers for a re-enactment of Lord Nelson’s famous pursuit of the French fleet in 1805.
On the party side, Nelson’s Dockyard hosts the island’s most iconic Christmas and New Year’s Eve Celebrations. On Christmas Day, it’s the Champagne Christmas Party, with live music and an even livelier crowd fueled by festivity, and of course, the Champagne Boat. The event matches true island celebration with fundraising, with proceeds aiding charity. Get your fill before joining the party with the Buffet Styled Christmas Feast at Copper and Lumber Inn!
If you're in Jolly Harbour, there's a Beach BBQ on Christmas Day at South Beach with the Jolly Harbour Yacht Club crew with Secret Santa for those that wish to partake.
On New Year’s Eve, or as we call it in Antigua, Old Year’s Night, the most spectacular fireworks display on island is seen from Nelson’s Dockyard, where the Forts, the yachts, and the historic bay are lit up at midnight. A Timeless Dinner and Dance Party is hosted by Copper and Lumber Inn from 7:00 pm, and the party area, bars, and DJs are set to go for the Back to the Future New Year’s Party from 10:00 pm.
If you’re on a yacht or just here for Christmas, there’s lots of fun to be had for the holidays both on the water and off. If you haven’t decided on Antigua yet for your itinerary for the festive season, rest assured, you won’t go wrong here with us! Click to see What's On in Antigua.
