LETT AND HOSEIN NAMED IN WINDIES UNDER 19 SQUAD FOR INDIA
Monday 12th September 2011

Emmanuel Lett and Akeal Hosein have been named by the West Indies Cricket Board Selection Committee as part of a powerful 15 man West Indies Under 19 squad for the quadrangular in India.

Test batsman Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the side which includes 12 of the 14 members who were on the last West Indies Under 19 tour to Florida.

Full squad
Kraigg Brathwaite – Barbados – Captain
Anthony Alleyne – Barbados
Sunil Ambris – St Vincent
Ronsford Beaton – Guyana
John Campbell - Jamaica
Derone Davis – Trinidad and Tobago
Justin Greaves – Barbados
Kavem Hodge – Dominica
Akeal Hosein – Trinidad and Tobago
Jerome Jones – Barbados
Steven Katwaroo – Trinidad and Tobago
Amir Khan – Guyana
Emmanuel Lett – Trinidad and Tobago
Kyle Mayers – Barbados
Donavan Nelson – Jamaica

Trinidadian batsmen Lett and Hosein get their first call up to the Windies side after consistent performances in the WICB Under 19 Tournament in Guyana.
The right handed Lett made the highest score of the tournament – 187 retired hurt against the Leeward Islands. Bowling lethally accurate off spin the 18 year old also picked up 5 for 21, once again, against the Leeward Islands but this time in the 50 over version of the tournament.

The left handed Hosein was also consistent with the bat and also bowls useful off spin.

Anthony Alleyne is the third member of the squad who did not tour Florida.

Campbell, the aggressive batsman joins his Jamaican captain Donavan Nelson in the squad which also includes Windward Islands captain Kavem Hodge, Trinidad and Tobago captain Steven Katwaroo and Guyana captain Ronsford Beaton.

Campbell was the leading scorer in the recently concluded 3 day tournament which was won by Jamaica while Brathwaite led all scorers in the 50 over tournament as he lifted the title as Barbados skipper.

Greaves was the tournament’s leading fast bowler while Davis picked up the most wickets in the 3 day and Khan headed the wickets tally in the 50 over.

The players who toured Florida who have missed out on the India tour are Kieron Joseph of Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaican Ramon Senior.

Nineteen players were invited to a training camp in Barbados following the WICB Under 19 Tournament. Four of them did not make the final touring squad. They are Marquino Mindley, Bryan Gayle, Chanderpaul Hemraj and Larry Edwards.

West Indies Under 19 will play against hosts India, Sri Lanka and Australia. Their first match is against Sri Lanka on September 27th.
