MORTON READY TO GIVE HIS ALL FOR NEW TEAM TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
Friday 17th December 2010

Runako Morton will be looking to give his all for Trinidad and Tobago when he makes his debut for the twin-island republic in the Caribbean T20 Tournament.

The 32-year-old middle-order batsman, was born in Nevis and represented the Leeward Islands for over a decade, but two months ago made the switch to Trinidad and Tobago. He is married to a Trinidadian and has been living in Trinidad for close to seven years.

“I am happy the Trinidad and Tobago selectors picked me for the Caribbean T20. I will be looking to give my all for the team. I have been embraced by the players and the team management. I can’t complain. I feel very comfortable,” Morton said Friday.

“Making the switch from the Leewards was the common sense thing to do for myself and the family. The travelling back and forth to the Leewards was not ideal and I decided to represent T&T, which is now home for me.”

The Trinis have been drawn in Group B alongside Barbados, Canada, the Leewards and English County team Hampshire Royals.

The tournament will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua and Kensington Oval in Barbados from Monday, January 10 to Sunday January 23.
Morton will come face to face with his old team-mates when the Trinis meet the Leewards in Antigua on Thursday, January 13 at 8 pm (7 pm Jamaica Time).

“The match against the Leewards will be just another match for me. It is just another game. I won’t get caught up in any hype and lose focus of the team goals and objectives. I would not want to be a distraction and cost us the match,” said Morton, who is a former Leeward Islands captain, and one of the region’s most successful batsmen at regional first-class level.

“We are all friends. I get along well with all the players in the Leewards team. We still talk a lot. There will be no animosity and I don’t foresee anything from the Leewards players. I still have love for the Leewards cricket and a lot of respect for Leewards players and the people involved.”

Trinidad and Tobago squad: Daren Ganga (captain), Lendl Simmons, Runako Morton, Darren Bravo, Adrian Barath, Imran Khan, Sherwin Ganga, Denesh Ramdin, Sunil Narine, Kevon Cooper, Ravi Rampaul, Samuel Badree, Jason Mohammed, Richard Kelly.

Team Management: Kelvin Williams – Head Coach, Omar Khan – Team Manager, Ronald Roger – Physiotherapist.
