WICB CONGRATULATES T&T WOMEN FOR TRIUMPH
Friday 20th August 2010

Dr Julian Hunte, President of the WICB, issued a congratulatory message on behalf of the Board, and praised the Trinbagonians for their deserved success. The twin island republic won the trophy by defeating St Vincent and the Grenadines in the final at Arnos Vale Playing Field on Wednesday evening. It was the second consecutive title for Trinidad and Tobago, who won the title when the tournament was played in Guyana last year.

“On behalf of the WICB I want to send hearty congratulations to the players and support staff of the Trinidad and Tobago team for their fantastic performance in winning the WICB Women’s trophy. They played like true champions, being unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, and deserve to take home the top prize,” Dr Hunte said.

Dr Hunte added: “We must also say ‘well done’ to the hosts, St Vincent and the Grenadines for reaching the final and putting up a great fight in the final. Throughout the tournament they had some tough matches but never gave up. They made some very good progress in this tournament and we encourage them to come back stronger and challenge for the title in next year’s event.”

The President also thanked all the players for being part of the tournament and gave special thanks to the organisers for staging a successful event.

“It was a fantastic week of cricket and a superb advertisement for women’s cricket in the Caribbean. People across the region have again seen that we have some fine female cricketers who have the ability to one day become the best in the game. The WICB remains committed to providing the necessary resources to make sure that the game continues to grow and flourish across the West Indies,” Dr Hunte said.

“The whole tournament was a tribute to the game in the region and all the players deserve special congratulations for the spirit in which they played the game and conducted themselves. They were true ambassadors for their countries and the region. We also thank the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association and all the match officials and for the successful hosting of the tournament,” Dr Hunte concluded.
