READY, SET; GO FOR THE INET KENNY BENJAMIN YOUTH FEST 2012 Tuesday 17th January 2012
The INET Kenny Benjamin Youth Fest will be held on Saturday, 04 February and Sunday, 05 February, 2012, venue to be confirmed.
This successful event for youngsters 13 and under is aiming to attract both males and females to its workshops, master classes, coaching sessions and matches and as Kenny Benjamin, coach, former West Indies fast bowler and one of the event’s founders explains the weekend will deliver more than cricket tips: “My coaching career and work with young athletes has shown me that we need to teach our youngsters skills that they can use not only on the field of play but also in their daily life. In 2011 we introduced a series of workshops in Public Speaking, drama, ethics and Internet safety and are now looking to add one more workshop.”
Benjamin adds that the event’s growing success is due to the partnerships built since the events inception in 2010: “We could not do this event without the firm support of our partners who have helped us in both cash and kind to ensure that the youngsters enjoy as well as benefit from what we are doing. Our title sponsor inet came aboard in 2011 as they understand that the development of our young people needs a more holistic approach and we cannot thank Curtis McKay and his team enough for their continued support and assistance.”
Curtis McKay, Telecommunications Manager, APUA adds that: “The inet Kenny Benjamin Youth Fest is a social investment in today’s youth. We applaud Mr. Benjamin for having the initiative to go forward and create an opportunity for kids to not only hone their cricket skills, learning from a legend, but to also develop life skills and a healthier lifestyle. inet the supplier of superior, high speed internet service, came onboard from the onset because we see so much potential in the youths of the nation and will eagerly support ventures that encourage them to succeed through sports and education. As we enter another year of this program, we are optimistic that these kids will continue to stay on a positive path and pursue their dreams, armed with tools from these workshops.”
This year’s event will also see the teams vying for the second U13 inet Kenny Benjamin Youth Fest Trophy: “These matches give the youngsters an opportunity to play competitive matches complete with match officials and scorers. They also get the opportunity to put into practice some of the things they would have learnt during the master classes with our guest coaches. We have already had commitment from six teams.”
The inet Kenny Benjamin Youth Fest is organised by Persona Community, a company that combines sport, education and event management
