PDNA TRAINING
Friday 16th October 2015

Approximately 25 individuals from across the government sector have concluded a four-day training on Post-Disaster National Assessment (PDNA) here in Antigua.

A team of facilitators from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Barbados and the OECS Dr. Asha Cambon and Dr. Vincent Little conducted the session in association with the Global Fund for Disaster Risk Reduction with the support of the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS).
The PDNA is a joint process to provide coordinated assistance to Governments in assessing the socio-economic consequences of disaster and support the development of recovery strategies.

The participants were drawn from the various ministries to include Finance, Trade, Social Transformation, Tourism, Public Utilities, Agriculture and Fisheries, Education, Health. There was also involvement from the Public Works Department, the Police Department, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force and NODS.

Among the specific objectives were to strengthen local capacity to prepare for, lead, conduct and complete national assessments following a disaster and to understand the role of external actors, the use of baseline data sets and internal assessment data sets and processes.
