SECOND CERT TRAINING
Tuesday 29th September 2015

Twenty-one individuals from five disaster districts have been added to the team of persons completing the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training at the National Office of Disaster Services on Friday.

Participants from St John’s City West, St John’s City East, St John’s Rural West, All Saints West and St Mary’s South were engaged in the session last week.

Facilitators from the National Office of Disaster Services, the Fire Department and St John Ambulance Association conducted sessions on disaster management, first aid, fire prevention, radio communication, basic search and rescue, map reading among other things.

The teams were presented with emergency kits which they utilized during an emergency exercise at the end of their training on Friday.

It is expected that these teams would be able to respond to emergencies in their respective communities until outside help arrives.

Facilitators are hoping that the various teams would be engaged in vigorous practice sessions in their respective districts.

Training has already been conducted in Barbuda and with several other districts.
