NODS Stocks 40-foot Container with Haiti Relief Supplies
For Immediate Release St Johns Antigua, (March 1, 2010)….A 40-foot container was loaded at the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) last week with relief supplies for quake-ravaged Haiti.
Personnel from NODS, Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force (ABDF), District Disaster Co-ordinators (volunteers), Central Board of Health (CBH), and Public Works stocked the humanitarian aid supplies which includes tents, food, medicine, diapers, blankets, toiletries and other supplies.
This is the second relief shipment that has been collected and packaged at NODS, as part of Antigua’s ongoing relief efforts in conjunction with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).
Minister responsible for Disaster Services Willmoth Daniel said the emergency relief efforts by NODS, and the public to assist Haiti in their time of need, has been commendable.
“The generosity of the public through humanitarian aid has continued to make possible the vital work that is being done by CDEMA on the ground in Haiti. As we continue to support the regional relief effort underway in Haiti, we are extending our thoughts and prayers to those who have been affected.” Minister Daniel said.
Director of NODS Philmore Mullin said the container should leave Antigua this week.
“This is the last of the emergency phase for Haiti relief efforts but we encourage the public to donate to the Antigua Haiti Disaster Response 2010 account at the Antigua Commercial Bank.” Mullin said.
The account number is 107070072 and is part of the wider Caricom efforts to raise funds to assist our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Click here for all News and Specials for National Office of Disaster Services
