ANTIGUA ASSISTS ST LUCIA FOLLOWING HURRICANE TOMAS Wednesday 15th December 2010
The government of Antigua and Barbuda through the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) is offering relief assistance to its CARICOM counterpart St Lucia following the passage of Hurricane Tomas.
Sixteen hundred cases of distilled water produced by the Antigua Distillery are being shipped to St Lucia today through Francis Shipping Agent.
The assistance comes following an assessment by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) which has revealed that one of the pressing needs at this time is potable water.
Hurricane Tomas caused major destruction, flooding and landslides in St Lucia in October killing at least 14 people.
Government through the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) will continue to monitor the situation in St Lucia, and based on continued assessment by CDEMA, will do what it can further to help its CARICOM counterpart.
