CAUTION URGED WITH PREDICTED HEAVY RAINFALL
Monday 4th October 2010

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) is urging the general public to take care on the roads and watch out for localized flooding as the country continues to experience heavy rainfall.
Drivers are also warned to take extra care on the roads as heavy rainfall has caused poor road conditions and wet road surfaces in many areas.

The MET office is forecasting more rain with occasional thundery downpours over the next 24 hours as an area of low pressure continues to dominate weather conditions across the eastern Caribbean.

Currently a flash flood warning remains in place until 3pm this afternoon.

Residents living in low lying areas are asked to monitor forecasts and be alert for possible flooding conditions.

To avoid getting caught in a flood, follow these safety tips:

- If flooding occurs, get to higher ground. Get out of areas subject to flooding, including dips, low spots, ditches, etc
- Avoid areas already flooded, especially if the water is flowing fast. Do not attempt to cross heavily flowing waterways.
- Roads may be washed out under flood waters. NEVER drive through flooded roadways.
- Do not park your vehicle along heavily flowing waterways, particularly during threatening conditions.
- Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
-Persons should refrain from sightseeing if you do not have to leave home please stay put.
