JAPANESE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALLY HANDS OVER DISASTER EQUIPMENT
Friday 2nd November 2018

1st November 2018 - The official handing over of two million US dollars worth of equipment to the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) clearly demonstrates that Japan will continue to stand by Caribbean nations in addressing climate change.

That’s according to Japanese Ambassador His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada, who handed over the disaster equipment on Wednesday to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Transformation and Human Resource Development, Youth and Gender Affairs Sandra Joseph.

This presentation forms part of the Japanese Grant Aid under the Economic and Social Development Programme which was signed in 2015. This grant aid, according to Ambassador Okada, aims to support the promotion of the economic and social development of Antigua and Barbuda by utilizing disaster management equipment produced in Japan.

The items include a land search and rescue vehicle, storage for disaster response equipment, multi-sensor weather stations, megaphones and personal protective equipment.

Director of NODS Philmore Mullin says the government is very appreciative of the efforts made to Antigua and Barbuda.
